Local Talent Album Design

This is a design for James Hill's newest musical project: Local Talent. A rising star of the Toronto scene, Hill is known best for his work with international jazz and hip hop sensations BADBADNOTGOOD and Autobahn Trio. The compositions for this particular album, Higienópolis, draw inspiration from jazz music, video games and fantasy, and take you on an emotional journey.

Projectwhatever was eager to incorporate Rajni Perera’s painting into the album cover and my challenge was to integrate the painting with Projectwhatever’s vision to an overall cohesive cover design.

Projectwhatever Album Art

Everyday Fiction is a solo piano project by pianist James Hill that draws inspiration from his love fiction, and each track is inspired by a different story. The album art embraces this journey from literature to musical interpretation, and aims to convery the pianist’s highly visual and colourful musical performance.

This album art was designed in conjunction with James Hill.

Søren Nissen Album Art

album art

In this album, the jazz artist draws influence from his five-month journey in India. He describes the experience to have been both a geographical and a psychological journey, in which he was able to explore not only a new culture but also new ways of understanding reality and spirituality.

The album art is a visual synthesis of the themes that were frequently brought up by the artist: layers of consciousness, different levels of reality, highs and lows, and multiplicity of paths. At the base of the image is a photograph by Søren Nissen, from his trek in the Himalayan mountains. The intent was to visually build on these themes by layering an interpretation on top of one representation of reality, a memory.
