spin
Spin is a three-dimensional sculptural piece inspired by the compass. Though the compass is a monofunctional object used to produce a very stable geometric shape, this project relies on the variable aspects of the object such as the radiusí length and its ìlegsíî position through time. Inspired in the spinning movement and the infinite possibilities of diameters, this design uses a series of incomplete concentric circles in an effort to emphasize the idea of speed and rotation. The idea is that the interruption itself creates the illusion of movement as it establishes a rhythm that could not have existed in a closed circle. The piece stands on a base of overlayed rotated squares, alluding to the rotation of the spinning paper below the compass.
